E-Learning Modul: Practical Experiences During your Studies

Would you like to find out which skills you have strengthened during your studies and how to plan your next steps towards a career or civic engagement? Our new e-learningmodule “Practical Experiences During Your Studies” supports you in doing just that!

The module was developed by the TRACS sections Career Service and Civic Engagement in cooperation with the Center for Teaching and Learning in Higher Education. It helps you reflect on your practical experiences, discover your potential, and refine your applications. It offers useful tips on networking and shows you how to make the most of practical activities for your professional development.

The module is available in both German and English. The English version is part of the “Come to Stay” project and is specifically tailored to the needs of international students.

Many practical activities can be credited within your curriculum – the module explains how this works.

Why are practical experiences during your studies important?

Gaining practical experiences during your studies is key to personal and professional development. They provide opportunities to:

  • further develop knowledge and skills through the practical application of theoretical knowledge

  • adopt a conscious attitude by reflecting on your own working methods, the practical experiences you gathered, and the insights you gained into the professional field(s)

  • take action, be that through drafting applications, working in the practical field or networking

Who is the e-learning module intended for?

  • The module is transdisciplinary and aimed at all students enrolled in Bachelor’s or Master’s degree programmes.

  • As part of the project “Come to Stay”, the English version of the module is specifically tailored to the needs of international students.

Which key topics does the e-learning module focus on?

The module focuses on the following key topics:

  • Further developing competencies

  • Exploring your motivation and values

  • Practical Experiences – types of activities, workplaces, and working conditions

  • Application Process – research, networking, and writing applications

  • Connecting studies and practice – crediting practical activities within your curriculum

Each key topic includes a learning module with input and follow-up exercises to deepen your understanding and encourage reflection on the respective topic.

At which point during my studies should I complete the e-learning module?

  • You can start the online module at any point during your studies. You can work through it flexibly, fitting it into your individual study routine.

  • Using the e-portfolio allows you to save documents that you have already created, allowing you to continue working on or revising them at a later point in time.

  • The key topics can be completed either in the given order or whenever it makes sense and is most useful for you at a specific point during your studies.

Can I acquire credit points?

  • Yes. For Bachelor’s students at University of Tuebingen, up to 10 credit points within the framework of the transdisciplinary competencies module can be credited in many programs.
