Providing a safe and secure environment for study, research and teaching

It is imperative that we foster a culture of anti-discrimination. This will ensure that all forms of discrimination are acknowledged, that experiences of discrimination are openly discussed, that rules for respectful interaction are established and that proven misconduct is consistently and effectively sanctioned.

Sexual harassment is a form of discrimination and is explicitly addressed as such in the General Equal Treatment Act (AGG). The state of Baden-Württemberg has also adopted the provisions of the AGG for students at the state university.

It is inevitable that a significant number of cases of misconduct will go unreported in universities, which are institutions characterised by formal and informal hierarchies. It is therefore the primary goal of university management to shed light on this dark field (monitoring), encourage people to talk about their experiences of discrimination and consistently sanction misconduct.

It is essential that low-threshold, confidential and professional counselling is available for anyone who wants to report disciplinary, labour or even criminal misconduct. This is the only way that the facts can be adequately clarified and appropriate sanctions imposed.

The Equal Opportunities Officer and her team already provide counselling within the scope of Section 11 (4) LHG to students and people working in academia in the event of gender-related or other experiences of discrimination.

The current “Directive on Partnership Behaviour”, which addresses the issue of discrimination, is being updated. The Equal Opportunities Officer has proposed a professionally supported structure that will ensure transparent counselling and complaints procedures.

The university provides regular training for its numerous confidential counsellors and advice centres on specific counselling topics, including sexualised harassment and anti-discrimination counselling.

Campaigns against discrimination or sexual harassment

The University is actively engaged in anti-discrimination and sexual harassment prevention at the federal and state levels. We participate in key campaigns such as  Zieh einen Schlussstrich“ and „Nachtsam“, as well as measures as part of the Charta der Vielfalt

The University of Tübingen, like all universities in Baden-Württemberg, is unequivocally against discriminatory and harassing behaviour. We are firmly committed to preventing and protecting those affected on campus.  The position is unambiguously set out in a joint resolution (deutsch) of the German Rectors' Conference (HRK), which was also signed by the state's Minister for Science and Research.
