TEA-Seminar: Gender, Faith and Religion in Africa

Dr. Janet Langat Monday, 4-6 p.m. Dates from Monday, 12.05. The TEA seminar “Gender, Faith and Religion in Africa” is open to participants from outside Catholic theology.

This course investigates the Faith and Gender progress in Kenya and by extension on the African continent. It allows a deep dive in the complexity of the topic and a better understanding of local diversity and global entanglements regrading especially the Catholic Church.

The impact of religious teachings on society and the legal framework surrounding the question of gender equality in Kenya and Africa will be focused. A walk into the past to retrieve gems of wisdom and social structures that may have existed then discover resources for gender quality in present times. And we ask about leadership and participatory roles of women in the religious field toady.

The course wants to give a deep dive in the African dynamics of Gender, Faith and Religion that allows to enrich a sometimes too narrow media-based understanding of the Global South.

Important note: If you wish to take an examination as a result of the seminar (e.g. a term paper or the LMS4 final examination): Ms. Langat does not have an examination permit at our faculty due to her teaching assignment, so she cannot conduct examinations independently. Prof. Schüßler will be available as an examiner so that you can still take an exam.
