Study: Medienproduktion der Zukunft

The ZFM and the Chair of Audiovisual Media, Film and Television at the Institute of Media Studies have compiled a current qualitative study on the media production of the future in the moving image sector on behalf of the Stuttgart Region Economic Development Corporation (WRS). The study clearly reveals both the strengths and the deficits of the Stuttgart Region and Baden-Württemberg as a whole. For example, the state's production and funding volume is nowhere near the outstanding training and study opportunities in the moving image media sector. This could be remedied by a Virtual Production Research Hub as a unique selling point for the region.

Virtual production is currently the major disruptive and climate-friendly technology in moving image production. It offers companies and universities alike connections to other innovative technologies with great future potential. For example, the further development of game engines, augmented and virtual reality (AR/VR) and the integration of artificial intelligence (AI) into media production could be driven forward by a centralised virtual production studio. At the same time, the already serious shortage of skilled labour could be prevented, as virtual production requires a radical rethink in the planning and implementation of film and media productions in many trades (e.g. pre-production, camera and post-production).
