for exchange / Erasmus students / English BA students

Complete beginners, A1.1 classes for students with no previous knowledge of German

General information

  • The A1.1 classes are free of charge for exchange students.
  • One class lasts one semester.
    summer term 2026: April 13 - July 25, 2026
  • You can take one class per semester.
  • It is not possible to take two classes on different levels at the same time. (e.g. A1.1/A1.2)
  • It is not possible to participate only one day per week.
  • You can get 6 credits for each class. (requirements: no more than 3 absences, 2 tests)

Registration (absolute beginners)

  • You do not need to take a placement test. 
  • Step 1: Please fill in the pre-registration form below between April 9 - April 15, 2026  10 am
  • The pre-registration form will be available here on this site  from April 9.
  • After you have filled in the form we will check your status and upload your level to Alma.
  • This can take up to 24 hours.
  • We will send you an email, when your level is uploaded on Alma. 
  • Step 2: Go to Alma during the registration period (April 9 - April 15, 2026) and register for your class.   
  • You will see on Alma by Friday, April 17, if you have a place in the class.  
  • Please note: Alma does not work on a first come first served basis. Places are distributed randomly via Alma, regardless of the registration date & time.
  • Classes start from Monday, April  27, 2026
