Course information

Course description

9 ECTS credits for approx. 180 contact hours:

  • 4 hours of German lessons in the morning: concentrated and effective learning, listening, speaking, reading, writing, vocabulary, grammar as well as university and everyday culture, regional and intercultural topics... (in 5 weeks approx. 90 hours).
  • 2 hours tutorial in the afternoon: vocabulary, conversation, projects on intercultural and regional topics, creation of a course magazine (in 5 weeks approx. 30 hours)
  • Special feature of the course: We spend one course week in a hostel in Bad Urach, a picturesque small town in the Swabian Alb region. Extended daily program (8-10 hours) with shared living, eating, studying and extensive leisure and evening program.
  • Orientation in Tübingen and at the university (ALMA portal, registration for seminars & lectures, library, Deutschland-Ticket for students ...)

Cultural social program and excursions

  • Opening event with cake and coffee

  • Historical guided tour of Tübingen

  • Full-day excursion to the Baden-Württemberg region

  • Excursion to Stuttgart and Esslingen

  • Hiking in the Swabian Alb with visit to a castle ruin

  • Cultural activities: Museums, evening events in Bad Urach ...

Participants

all international students of the University of Tübingen

  • The course is designed for students who are new to Tübingen and will begin their studies in Tübingen in the summer semester 2025 (=> spring cours 2025) or in the winter semester 2025/2026 (=> fall course 2025).
  • If places are available, international students who have been studying in Tübingen for a longer period of time can also participate.
  • The course does not accept external participants.

Register early! Due to high demand the maximum number of participants (45) is reached quickly.

Language requirement

at least completed A2.2 level (corresponds to 240 hours of instruction in a German course)

We offer classes at three language levels:

  • Group 1: Level A2+/B1
  • Group 2: Level B1
  • Group 3: Level B2

Participants will be assigned via a written and oral placement test.

ECTS credits & Certificate

  • 9 ECTS credits

Requirements for a certificate with 9 ECTS credits:

  • regular, active participation (max. 3 days absent)
  • project work with presentation
  • various writing assignments
  • 2 tests (with reading comprehension, listening comprehension, grammar & vocabulary)

Course fees

855,- €

for tuition, tutorials, teaching material, excursions, accommodation and meals during the one-week stay in Bad Urach, as well as for extracurricular activities.

The course fee is due within 14 days after receipt of the invoice.

Please note: Accommodation costs in Tübingen are not included!

Accommodation in Tübingen

The room in Tübingen is not included in the course fee (855,- €).

You can rent a room in the student halls of residence as early as September for the winter semester and as early as March for the summer semester.

The housing situation in Tübingen is difficult. Please look for a room as early as possible.

Health insurance

Please arrange for insurance cover for the duration of the course (e.g. travel health insurance). The course fee does not include insurance coverage.

Cancellation

A cancellation fee of 100,- € will be charged for students who withdraw up until 2 weeks before the beginning of the course. Reimbursements for students who withdraw by the end of the first week of the course will be considered on a case-by-case basis (because of illness, for example), but no more than 50 percent of the costs of the course will be refunded.
