June 15, 2025, 11:59 pm, for the Australian/New Zealand Semester 1 (= summer semester 2026) and/or the Australian/New Zealand Semester 2 (= winter semester 2026/27)

Attention, if you would like to apply for the Baden-Württemberg Stipendium: If you are applying for the summer semester 2026, you must apply FIRST in February 2025 for the BW Scholarship and then on June 15, 2025 for the place in the exchange program.

The documents must be submitted online via the Mobility Online application portal (Bewerbungsportal Mobility Online)

Notes on the application

  • Please ensure that you obtain the application documents, especially the language certificate and your list of grades, as early as possible
  • Incomplete applications will not be processed
  • You can - and should! - specify up to 5 preferred universities in your application

Please complete the application form (Bewerbungsformular). Please complete the application form. You will then receive an automatic email containing a link to log in. There you can indicate your preferences (start and duration of the stay abroad, university preferences). You will then receive an automatic email with a login link. Please log in and complete the required information. After that, you will be able to upload the application documents in the system.

Description of your study plan

In English - approx. 2 pages

The description of your study plan plays a decisive role in the placement and allocation of available places. Give subject-specific reasons for your choice of university(ies) to which you would like to apply. You can specify up to five preferred universities in the online application. Please focus your letter of motivation on your first choice. Second and third preferences can also be described (briefly!).

You should address the following points in your letter of motivation:

  • What is the aim of your stay abroad?
  • Why do you want to go to the country and university of your choice?
  • What makes your university of choice special? Why did you choose it and not another one?
  • Which courses do you want to take there and how do they fit in with your studies in Tübingen? How are you planning your further studies?
  • What problems might there be and how have you already dealt with them? (e.g. Australian semester times, credit transfer, financing your stay, etc.)

Proof of English language proficiency

For the application for the exchange place at the International Office, proof of English language proficiency is accepted:

Important: In case of a successful application and allocation of an exchange place, a TOEFL or IELTS must be submitted subsequently for certain host universities.

Please upload your online test result as a pdf.

Please take care of your language certificate as early as possible - the test dates are often fully booked weeks in advance.

List of courses attended so far

Please upload a scan of the list of courses you have attended so far in German, stamped by the examination office, with the current grade point average.

 

Bachelor's certificate (if available)

If you would like to go to Australia/New Zealand during your Master's degree, please upload a scan of your Bachelor's certificate.

Abitur certificate

Please upload a scan of your Abitur certificate.


Selection procedure and criteria

Applicants are selected on the basis of the documents submitted. The selection criteria are as follows:

  • Professional qualification (grades)
  • Meaningfulness and justification of the study project (letter of motivation)
  • Language skills
  • Extracurricular criteria, e.g. practical experience, voluntary commitment of the applicant
  • Formal requirements (completeness, compliance with formal standards, grammar and spelling, etc.)

There is no entitlement to a study place abroad or at a particular university.


Application Process

The International Office reviews the applications and allocates applicants to partner universities.

End of July

The International Office sends out letters of acceptance and rejection.

September/October or February/March

 If accepted: The International Office nominates you to your host university.

The nomination and application periods vary greatly depending on the host university and the timing of your study abroad semester (winter semester or summer semester).

You then apply to your host university and must submit additional documents or upload them to the respective university’s online portal.

October/November or March/April
After applying to the host university

The host university reviews the application and subsequently sends the letter of acceptance, i.e. the official confirmation of if and when you will study at the host university

Approx. 1–2 months before departure

You will receive the letter of acceptance. Only then can you apply for your visa and should book your flight.
