Introduction
Tools and programs that make use of generative artificial intelligence (AI) are omnipresent in current discourse. The task of universities, as centers of knowledge and innovation, is to promote critical thinking and create the basis for informed decisions and social progress. The University of Tübingen actively accepts its responsibility and is taking an in-depth look at the topic of AI. To this end, the “Generative AI Working Group” was established to promote the responsible use of Generative Artificial Intelligence. The working group advises the Rectorate of the University of Tübingen on the use of generative AI in studies, research and teaching, as well as all other areas of the university. The working group, consisting of members from all faculties, students and various central service units, develops guidelines to ensure a critical, reflective, transparent and responsible approach to generative AI. The members of the working group have a critical and optimistic attitude towards the possibilities of generative AI. Below we present the current status of the discussion.
