Modeling of the essential genes of microbial life

As part of the EU project AMBiCon, a study was published that characterizes the vital genetic nucleus of the bacterium Escherichia coli for the first time. The method can be transferred to other microorganisms and other cells. Thus, it is now possible to determine which cellular functions are essential for survival. Potential applications include medicine, food production, and biotechnology.
