In his address the Dean, Professor Josef Schmid, pointed out that while Schöbel’s duties now come to an end, the pleasure remains. Professor Dominik Papies, department head, sought "to appropriately describe the emerging void.” Papies highlighted Schöbel’s dedication to internationality at the faculty and coordination of the Erasmus and double degree programs. Both the Dean and head of department agreed that Schöbel’s knowledge and expertise would continue to enrich the faculty.
Apart from the representative of student council, PD Dr. Stefan Rostek thanked Schöbel on behalf of the whole staff for his great leadership: Never would Prof. Schöbel act selfishly. He accepted the people around him as they are and worked with them on equal terms. Moreover, Rostek praised his doctoral advisor for always appreciating and encouraging scientific curiosity. Within 26 years at the University of Tuebingen Schöbel mentored 17 PhD students and postdocs.
In 1986 he completed his doctoral thesis with the original title “Zur Theorie der Rentenoption” at the FU Berlin. After his habilitation in 1992 he was called to the University of Tuebingen and built the Department of Corporate Finance at the Faculty of Business and Economics. Schöbel published in the Journal of Finance, Journal of Banking and Finance and the European Finance Review. As visiting professor he lectured at the Groupe HEC Paris, France, the Texas A&M University, USA, the Jiao Tong University, Shanghai, China.
In his farewell lecture, Professor Schöbel returned to the current state of his research. His latest findings in the field of conic finance are available in the presentation files of his lecture.
