The tradition of publishing research results in the form of books and journals is widely established. In comparison, the practice of publishing the underlying research data is not yet as widespread. In its guidelines on research data management, the University of Tübingen, as well as the most important research funders, advocates open and free access to research data. The overarching goal of research data management is to adhere to the so-called FAIR principles: to ensure the discoverability, accessibility, interoperability and reusability of research data.
We support researchers at the University of Tübingen in publishing their research data in research data repositories in accordance with the FAIR principles. This can be done in subject-specific as well as generic repositories. In particular, we support the use of the multidisciplinary institutional repository FDAT, which we operate for the University of Tübingen. This makes the data discoverable and citable via a digital identifier (Digital Object Identifier, DOI). We also support the process of long-term archiving of research data at the end of the project in order to make the data reusable for at least ten years after the end of the project, as required by the DFG, for example.
