Requirements and application

After March 15th, 2024, enrolment in the first semester will no longer be possible, as the degree programme will be discontinued and replaced by the degree programme "Cellular and Immunological Biosciences" (new deadline for applications: May, 31st).

  1. Bachelor's degree in biology or closely related subject with a final grade of 2.50 or better.
  2. For the Master's program, English language skills (see next field for details)
  3. International applicants without a German-language university entrance qualification must prove German language skills (see next field for details)

The languages of study and examination in the Master's program are English, and, to a smaller extent, German (elective classes).

English language skills must be proven by TOEFL (79), or IELTS 6.5, or native English speaker, or English-language bachelor's degree (from a country with English as an official language), or Cambridge Certificate FCA, CAE, CPE (level B2). Skills can also be proven by English as a first foreign language consistently up to the Abitur (final mark "gut" or better).

International applicants without a German-language university entrance qualification must provide evidence of German language skills by DSH1, Telc B1, TestDaF 3333, or Goethe-Zertifikat B1, exclusively.

It is a so-called "mono-master", i.e. the study is done in one scientific subject.

Program details

The course imparts knowledge about the diverse life processes in plants at the biochemical, molecular, cellular as well as physiological level. The theoretical approaches, principles and methods in the life sciences as well as the special features of molecular life processes in plants are taught. The program focuses on the in-depth scientific study of the molecular mechanisms that control plant development and adaptation processes to the animate and inanimate environment, as well as the interplay between developmental and adaptive processes.

The language of the program is English, some elective courses are in German.
