From winter semester 24/25, enrolment in the first semester will no longer be possible, as the degree programme will be discontinued and replaced by the degree programme "Microbiology and Infection Biology" (new deadline for applications: May, 31st).
- Bachelor's degree in Biology or an equivalent degree with a minimum grade of 2.50.
- International applicants *without* a German-language university entrance qualification must prove German language proficiency according to the university´s matriculation regulations (see also information on proof of linguistic study ability / DSH language test).
The language of study and examination is German. Courses can be held in German and English. A good knowledge of English (at least level B2), both written and spoken, is required but does not have to be proven. Many courses are held in English. Literature for advanced studies is almost exclusively available in English.

It is a so-called "mono-master", i.e. the study is done in one scientific subject.
Program details
The program provides in-depth knowledge of microbiology, from molecular biology and physiology of microorganisms to infection biology and biotechnology. The fundamental principles of microbiology are taught as well as the study of various special fields of microbiology. An essential goal of the course is the scientific examination and introduction to research, critical reflection, independence and personal responsibility of the students.
The language of the program is German, some elective courses are held in English.
