Research Associate (m/f/d; E 13 TV-L, 75%)
initially for a fixed term of four years.
The DFG Research Unit addresses the question of how knowledge can be taught so that it is retained in the long term and can be applied flexibly. Across a total of eight subprojects, researchers from psychology, education, and subject-specific didactics work closely together to investigate the cognitive foundations of sustainable learning and its effective implementation in the classroom. To this end, experimental studies are conducted in schools.
Subproject 8, “Embedding Generative Tasks and Retrieval Practice to Promote Inquiry-Based Learning in STEM Education”, investigates how self-regulation strategies (e.g., strategy instruction, utility-value interventions, and successive re-learning) can promote sustainable learning through non-interactive forms of teaching in inquiry-based science education.
The tasks include, among other things, literature research, recruitment of pupils, study design and the preparation of learning and test materials, data collection and analysis, as well as the publication and presentation of research findings. A PhD within the framework of the project is expressly desired and will be actively supported.
What we offer:
- an attractive PhD position in the field of experimental teaching, learning, and instructional research
- academic work at the interface of basic and applied research
- exchange and collaboration in a stimulating interdisciplinary research team
- intensive support with your doctorate and the advancement of your academic career
- further training opportunities and conference attendance
- family-friendly working conditions
What you should bring:
- a university degree (Diploma / Master's) in psychology, education, or a related field (e.g. quantitative educational research, educational psychology, empirical educational research, teacher training)
- an interest in pursuing a PhD in the field of experimental teaching and learning research
- a very good command of English
- very good written and oral communication skills
- proven knowledge of statistics and research methods
- experience in experimental work
- motivation and interest in familiarising yourself with the subject area
- the ability to work in a team and to work independently
Severely disabled applicants will be given preferential consideration if equally qualified.
The University of Tübingen seeks to increase the proportion of women in research and teaching and therefore expressly encourages qualified female researchers to apply.
The appointment is made through the Central Administration.
