Workshop: Empowerment in Action – Expanding Our Options in the Face of Racism

A “braver space” for exchange, empowerment, and collective learning!

Experiences of racism are a regular part of everyday life for many BIPoC. In such moments we may feel caught off guard, speechless, or powerless. Yet there are usually more options for action than we recognize in those moments.

In this workshop, we create a safer space where personal experiences can be shared and reflected upon collectively. Together, we will explore concrete everyday situations and “play them through” in small, practice-oriented sequences. By trying out different responses, we strengthen our confidence in acting and develop individual strategies for navigating racist encounters.

The focus is on empowerment: recognizing our own resources, learning from one another, and courageously experimenting with new ways of responding. The goal is to leave with greater clarity, self-trust, and a stronger sense of agency for future situations.

This workshop is intended for internationals, people with migration backgrounds, and those who identify as people of color, Black, or Indigenous.

Members of all status groups are welcome.

The workshop will be led by Josephine Jackson, a social worker who identifies as a Black German from Tübingen. Her focus is on anti-discrimination work, anti-racism and empowerment.

Date: Friday, May 8, 2:30 to 5.30 p.m.

After you sign up, we will send you the address of the venue. The space is accessible. Please let us know if you have any special requirements.
