The University of Tübingen museum will be showing the documentary photo exhibition “Ganz nah aber weit genug – Flüchtlinge im Libanon” (Near but still far enough – Refugees in Lebanon) at Hohentübingen Castle from 23 March to 1 May 2016. The exhibition was produced by the Konrad Adenauer Foundation.
More than seventy years after the end of World War II – refugees and displaced persons once more dominate public debate in Europe. What is to be done about rising numbers of refugees and asylum-seekers? What is even possible? To find answers, we have to look at the causes. Terrorism and civil war are forcing people to leave their homes and to seek safety elsewhere. In the case of Syria, the neighboring countries – above all Lebanon – are bearing the brunt of the refugee influx. It is a huge economic and social burden for a small country whose infrastructure was already under pressure.
Via the work of ten journalism students sponsored by the Konrad Adenauer Foundation, visitors to the exhibition can take a close look at the difficult situation in this part of the Mideast. One of the students is Tübingen journalist Jessica Gehring.
The exhibition opens on Tuesday, 22 March at 6pm.
