As part of the University of Tübingen's Excellence Strategy, the Environmental Systems Platform ("Umweltplattform") connects research groups across the university that focus on environmental issues. By integrating the natural sciences, socio-economic disciplines, law, and ethics with each other, it establishes an interdisciplinary research hub adressing socially relevant issues. 
Within the research area "Sustainable Management of Natural Resources", the platform concentrates on topics such as water and energy management, renewable energies, biodiversity, and the preservation of agricultural land, among others. It provides opportunities to draw on successful transdisciplinary research projects and to integrate user perspectives more systematically into environmental research. In doing so, the platform contributes and aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SGDs).
