Student Mentoring Projects

Would you like to accompany and support young people, for example in the field of leisure activities or with regard to their professional planning? Are you interested in helping young people to discover and develop their own potential as a student mentor? Then participating in a mentoring program is an ideal opportunity for you to do so. As a student mentor, you have the opportunity to test your leadership and organizational skills in a real environment, to strengthen your personal responsibility and to break down any prejudices. You act as role model and companion as well as providing motivational support for your mentees. In addition, through the close relationship with the young people, you can see and directly experience the effect of your work.

Participation in the mentoring projects is independent of subject and can be started at any point during your studies. You prepare for activity as a mentor through workshops and training courses.

Depending on the extent of your participation in one of the following mentoring programs, your civic engagement can be recognized with up to 10 credit points within the transdisciplinary competencies module. In addition, this engagement can be recognized as a unit of the “Civic Engagement” Certificate.

The Projects

Joblinge

JOBLINGE mentoring supports young people in their search for a suitable apprenticeship or job. Over a period of six months, the mentors serve as important motivational support for the professional development of the mentees in weekly meetings.

Interested students receive training in preparation for their mentoring work. Furthermore, support from the JOBLINGE team is available to you during the entire duration of the project. The mentees are allocated by full-time JOBLINGE employees.

Through mentoring, the mentors gain practical leadership experience, personal and professional benefits and they experience the relevance of their volunteer work first hand.
Registration modalities and further information can be found in alma.

ROCK YOUR LIFE! Tübingen e.V.

The participants of the ROCK YOUR LIFE! coaching complete a free professional coaching training course and apply it in practice in voluntary coaching relationships with students of the Werkrealschule.
With this win-win principle, the students (coaches) develop valuable social skills for their (professional) life and at the same time support pupils on their way to their school leaving certificate and beyond.

Exercise instructors at the University Sports Department Tübingen

The University Sports Department depend on volunteer exercise instructors. They are the mainstay in the implementation of a weekly program and make the diverse range of sports and exercise possible. Students who want to get involved in university sports for a short or long period of time in addition to their studies and would like to gain insight into voluntary work in sports have the opportunity to recognize their involvement as an exercise leader in university sports in Tübingen with CP within the transdisciplinary competencies. Alongside their commitment to exercise leadership, students can attend qualification courses offered by the University Sports Department and educational courses offered by the umbrella organization Allgemeiner Deutscher Hochschulsport (German University Sports Association). With a final reflection workshop, the activity is reflected and the commitment is integrated into the experience space of the study.

The following steps are necessary for the crediting of your exercise leader commitment:

  1. Have been active as an exercise instructor at the University Sports Department Tübingen for at least 30 hours (= 1 CP) and have participated in qualification offers of the University Sports Center as well as have had your exercise instructor activity reflected by a course visit of a person of the University Sports Department.

  2. Participation in the reflection workshop of the University Sports Department "Student Engagement in University Sports" within the Transdisciplinary Course Program with the following contents:

  • Elaboration and post-processing of a course concept, taking into account the specialized literature
  • Preparation of provided literature on the topic of commitment in sports for the reflection workshop
  • Active participation in the reflection workshop
  • Writing of a science-based practice reflection
  • Peer feedback on the practice reflection

Upon successful completion, an official exercise instructor record confirming the additional qualifications will be issued and the CP can be counted toward the Health Literacy Certificate in the Physical Activity topic area or as part of the Student Mentoring Projects format for the Social Engagement Certificate as part of Building Block 2.
