International Summer Course 2027

Registration for the International Summer Course 2027 opens mid-January 2027.  

The international summer course at the University of Tübingen combines four weeks of intensive, communicative German lessons at the language levels A2-C1 with a varied leisure program. Basic knowledge of the German language, at least 70 hours of language instruction, is required. There is no class for absolute beginners. 

We invite you to spend a very special summer at the University of Tübingen:

The program is suitable for students of all subjects and for anyone with an interest in German language and culture.

Registration and cancellation

Registration for the International Summer Course 2027

Registration deadline: As soon as the maximum number of participants is reached. 

Please note: If you cancel your registration after May 31, 2027, we will retain a processing fee of 100,- Euro. In case of cancellation after June 30, 2027, we will retain an additional processing fee of 300,- € for the room reservation.

Online Registration for the summer course 2027 opens mid-January 2027. 

Credits

You can get a maximum of 5 ECTS points in the International Summer Course. Please ask your home university before the start of the course whether these points will be accepted by your university.

Prerequisite for the maximum number of credits: regular active participation in class (with final test). In addition, participation in tutorials and collaboration in a group project.

 

Staying in Tübingen

Upon request, we can arrange for a single room in a student dormitory with shared bathrooms and kitchens: 350,- to 420,- Euro, including the check-in service. 

In case of cancellation after June 30, 2027, we will retain a processing fee of 300,- € for the room reservation.

Course fee and payment

- 890,- Euro for classes and tutorials, teaching materials, class activities, one excursion to the surrounding countryside, for all social events within the program and internet access.

- 350,- to 420,- Euro, for a single room in the student dormitory, if you book the room through us.

You can pay by bank transfer or by credit card. You will receive the payment information after registration.

Please note: If you cancel your registration after May 31, 2027, we will keep an administration fee of 100,- Euro. In case of cancellation after June 30, 2027, we will retain an additional processing fee of 300,- € for the room reservation.
The course fee does not include any insurance coverage. 

For 43,40,- Euro you can buy a ticket for the city bus for for month of August at our check-in. Please bring cash to pay for the ticket. 

Additionally you should plan for about 400,- Euro for your meals or free time activities.

FAQs

Can I get a scholarship?
The Summer Course does not award its own scholarships. 

Are there any participation requirements?
Yes, you must be at least 18 years old to participate in the summer course. You must also have a basic knowledge of the German language, at least level A1 (70 hours of language classes).

Am I automatically insured if I get sick during the summer course?
No. Please take out international health insurance in your home country for the duration of the summer course and bring your insurance certificate with you. We will then help you find a doctor. The course fee does not include any insurance coverage. 

When is the best time to arrive and depart?
You should arrive at the Check-In in Tübingen on Monday, August 2nd between 11:00 a.m. and 4:00p.m.
You will need to check-out and leave your room on Friday, August 27.
You can sleep in your room until Friday, August 27, which is our check-out day.
The check-out takes place between 8:00 and 11:00 a.m.
Please plan accordingly.
If you want to arrive earlier or leave later, you can book a room at the youth hostel in Tübingen.

How do I get to my dorm?
We will drive you and your baggage to your room on the day of arrival and help you with checking-in.

What do I do if I arrive after 4:00pm on the day of arrival?
If you arrive later than 4:00 pm on the day of arrival, please let us know in advance and write us an e-mail. We can then find a personal solution.

What is the most important information about my room in the student dormitory?
We provide basic, simple single student rooms, meals excluded. Bathrooms and kitchens are usually shared by several people. Shared apartments are often mixed (not separated by gender).
There are several student dormitories in Tübingen. We aren't able to tell you exactly which dorm you will be living in before the course starts. You will receive all the details upon your arrival. Many of the summer course rooms are located in the district "Waldhäuser Ost".

Is it possible to cook in the dormitory?
Yes. There is a kitchen on each floor, which is shared by the residents of the floor. Kitchens are equipped with stove, oven, refrigerator, sink, etc. There are also pots, dishes, etc.

Is there a university cafeteria?
Yes, there is the Mensa Wilhelmstraße. It is very close to the university building “Neuphilologicum,” where the classes take place. They offer different, affordable hot lunch options every day. For a quick snack or coffee in between classes, there are also two cafeterias nearby.

Are there washing facilities in the rooms?
Almost all rooms have their own sink. Bathrooms are usually located on the floor and are used by men and women.

How far is it from the student dormitory to the university?
Tübingen is not a very big city. The student dormitories can be reached by foot or by bus. The bus system in Tübingen is reliable and safe, busses leave every 5-10 minutes. There are even night buses. You can buy a monthly ticket for the city bus in Tübingen at your check-in.

Do I have internet access?
Yes. All participants have internet access via EDUROAM or can log into the University's open Wifi. You can use the internet for free. However, not all dormitories offer wireless internet access, therefore we recommend bringing your Laptop and a LAN cable.

What do I need to bring?
You need to bring covers for the bedding. You need three pieces: a cover for the pillow, a cover for the comforter and a sheet for the mattress (about 90x200cm). You should also bring your own towels.
