Solidarity in Tübingen!? - Service-Learning-Seminar with the Tübingen Asylum Center

The first step towards the Tübingen Atlas of Social Engagement is done!

The lecturers Sylvia Erben and Kathrin Schumann developed a long-term seminar concept together with our department Service Learning and Social Engagement. Its aim is to develop a multimedia atlas of social engagement in Tübingen. The common denominator is the multi-perspective approach to the concept of “solidarity”.

In the winter semester 2022/23, the lecturers and students worked on the first component in cooperation with the Tübingen Asylum Center, by dealing with “solidarity” and gaining knowledge of media science methods for creating an online page flow. A page flow is a tool for multimedia online reports. Afterward, the students interviewed employees, volunteers of the "Refugee Law Clinic" and asylum seekers and prepared the material for it. Following the release of the first page flow in cooperation with the Asylum Center, it will be published on a digital platform, thus laying the foundation for the Tübingen Atlas for Social Engagement. Following the same approach, the initiative “Frauen helfen Frauen e. V.” will supplement the Atlas in the coming semester. In the long term, this atlas is intended to link up the city's diverse initiatives, make them more visible and provide an appealing orientation to make it easier for interested parties to get involved.

We would like to express our sincere thanks to the Unibund for the funding we received!
