This page lists the most important contacts and advisory services if you have queries, problems or conflicts at the University. The aim is to enable all members of the University community (students, employees, doctoral candidates, internationals) to quickly find the right contact person for their specific question or problem.

Staff Council

The Staff Council is the elected representative body for employees at the University of Tübingen and for state employees at the University Hospitals.
The staff council’s main task is 

  • to ensure that laws, regulations, collective agreements, service agreements, accident prevention regulations, and other occupational safety regulations, etc., are implemented in the interests of employees.
  • It receives complaints from employees and enters into negotiations with the employer in the matter.

The staff council must also ensure that all employees are treated fairly and equitably, in particular that there is no discrimination against individuals on the basis of race or ethnic origin, ancestry or other origin, nationality, religion or belief, disability, age, political or trade union activity or opinion, or on the basis of gender or sexual identity. The staff council deliberates on a confidential basis in accordance with § 7 Landespersonalvertretungsgesetz.

Youth and Trainees' Representative (JAV)

By law, the Youth and Trainees’ Representative (JAV) is responsible for representing the specific interests of employees undergoing vocational training (trainees, interns, FSJ/FÖJ volunteers, and employees under the age of 18) to the staff council, so that the staff council can consider their concerns in a suitable manner. The Psychosocial Counseling Service | University of Tübingen advises University of Tübingen employees on all personal issues and needs in cases of conflict, e.g., on how to apply conflict mediation and resolution methods.

For students

For questions regarding equality/ balancing studies with care responsibilities

Team Equity provides advice and support on all gender-specific issues relating to equality; and on balancing studies with care responsibilities.

For support in case of personal or mental health problems in the context of studies

For exchange students

Central point for all exchange students’ concerns: International Office

The International Office is the primary contact and advice center for international exchange students:

  • in all matters regarding studying at the University of Tübingen,
  • in cases of disability or chronic illness,
  • for supporting international students in their studies,
  • for communication with the student housing administration,
  • Peer-to-peer services over the course of studies.

For all questions relating to doctoral studies; career development for doctoral candidates and postdocs

The Graduate Academy at the University of Tübingen advises and supports doctoral students and postdocs by offering career and funding advice, mentoring, advanced training, and networking opportunities.

In cases of conflict during doctoral studies

In cases of conflict during doctoral studies where no solution can be found without involving a further authority, contact the ombudspersons for doctoral matters. You can find out who holds this office within your faculty in the doctoral regulations. The deans frequently fulfill this role. The state law governing institutions of higher education requires that there be ombudspersons for doctoral matters.

The Welcome Center advises international guest researchers on all matters relating to onboarding, residency, housing, and communication with the registration authorities in Tübingen.
