Title: Movement Interaction Resilience and Adaptation: Conceptualizing a more dynamic palaeoanthropology of the Central Balkans
Abstract: The last decade of research in palaeoanthropology has generated an increased awareness of the complexity of hominin interactions across the continents, and pushed for a dynamic and multireticular understanding of human evolution. This is particularly true for the areas of the world where the palaeolithic is relatively understudied. Fitting within a push to diversify science (especially the Western dominated palaeoanthropology) these new areas open a number of different perspectives, and call for a more open approaches in our science - one in which the established paradigm can change more swiftly in response to new knowledge and new perspectives. I will be discussing these new finds in the context of the dynamic Eastern Mediterranean, and current debates about the origins and movements of Neanderthals, number of incursions of modern humans and their ancestors into Europe and the changes in perspective it entails.
