The University began as an agricultural college and there is a working farm on campus today, along with the UM Dairy, which churns out fresh ice cream all year long!
The Point of Failure on South Campus has lines that point to where the old buildings of the university once stood before the fire in 1912. It is said that if you step on the Point of Failure, you won’t graduate in four years.
One of UMD's famous graduates is Jim Henson. He is the creator of The Muppets and there is a statue of him and Kermit the Frog right outside of The Stamp building on campus.
