How curiosity influences our learning

Ever since machine learning and AI began to have a major impact on our everyday lives, the question has been, how do humans actually learn—and what can we apply from this to machine learning? What role does our curiosity play in how and what we learn? And how can our learning progress and learning process be scientifically researched?

Prof. Dr. Pierre-Yves Oudeyer answered these questions in his keynote “Curiosity-driven learning in humans: learning progress, autotelic exploration, and open-ended development.” The audio recording of the English-language lecture, which Oudeyer gave during the LEAD Graduate School & Research Network Retreat in October 2025, is now available on YouTube:
