The Psychology of Science Denial

The vast majority of Germans have confidence in research and science (Wissenschaftsbarometer), but around one in ten respondents “do not” or “tend not to” trust science. A gaze at other countries shows how quickly skepticism can turn into science denial, and how scientific evidence can be disregarded and exploited for political purposes.  

Why do people deny scientific facts and research? What insights can psychology provide, and how can we solve this problem? Prof. Dr. Gale Sinatra answered these questions in her keynote “The Psychology of Science Denial: Challenges and Solutions.” The audio recording of Sinatra's lecture, given during the LEAD Graduate School & Research Network Retreat in October 2025, is now available on YouTube:
