Tübingen’s Education Science ranks among the top group in the 2025 CHE University Ranking
Tübingen’s Education Science receives top marks – supported in part by the contributions of the Hector Research Institute of Education Sciences and Psychology.
In the latest CHE University Ranking 2025, the Education Science program at the University of Tübingen received top marks. Based on student evaluations, the department achieved top-tier results in ten categories nationwide – including overall study conditions, support from teaching staff, academic advising, course offerings, program organization, introduction to academic work, library services, and IT infrastructure. In addition, objective indicators such as graduation rates within the standard period and support at the beginning of studies were also rated as excellent.
A significant contribution to this success comes from the Hector Research Institute of Education Sciences and Psychology, which, together with the Institute of Education, forms the department. With its strong research profile, research-based teaching, and student-centered support, the HIB plays a key role in maintaining the high quality of the program.
Nevertheless, HIB Director Professor Dr. Ulrich Trautwein emphasizes that continued development remains essential: “The feedback from students provides a valuable basis for improving our work in specific areas – for example, in better preparing students for international mobility and successful career entry.”
The CHE University Ranking does not assess universities as a whole but evaluates individual academic disciplines. Each subject is rated based on specific indicators – such as teaching, research, resources, and student opinions – with results categorized into three groups: top, middle, and lower tier. Each subject is reviewed on a three-year rotation.
