Someone requires visual stimuli, someone else learns through listening? According to scientific research, this statement is unproven, yet the myth of specific learning types remains widespread. “This concept probably persists this stubbornly, as it is intuitive and easy to grasp”, says Tim Fütterer in a current ZEIT article. The myth of learning types often confronts him during conversations with German teachers and student teachers. Fütterer conducts research and teaches at the University of Tübingen at the Hector-Institute for Empirical Educational Research. He focuses mainly on teaching quality and teacher training and is a member of the LEAD Graduate School & Research Network. How do you learn more effectively? Using multisensory input, and therefore addressing several channels at once, such as reading, listening and combining it with gestures, can help improve remembering the studied items.
