Workshop "Ambiguity in Translation" in December

The RTG 1808 Ambiguity: Production and Perception in collaboration with the Literaturhaus Stuttgart cordially invited to the Workshop “Ambiguity in Translation” on Friday, December 16, 2016. To find adequate equivalents for ambiguity in literary texts in another language is one of the most demanding tasks in translation. The workshop addressed the question how experts deal with this challenge on a day-to-day basis. Speakers were the author and translator Yoko Tawada (Berlin), the literary translators Christa Schuenke (Berlin) and Shelley Frisch (Princeton) as well as Elias Güthlein, PhD Student at the RTG 1808. For the evening programme we were delighted to present Herta Müller. The winner of the Nobel Prize for Literature 2009 discussed the phenomenon of ambiguity in her work "Vater telefoniert mit den Fliegen" with Insa Wilke.
