You will need an insurance certificate for your enrollment. Please contact a statutory health insurance company for this.
The insurance certificate will then be sent by your statutory health insurance directly to the University of Tübingen via electronic data transmission. Please note that the insurance card or a written membership certificate is not sufficient.
Were you previously privately insured? With the beginning of your studies you have to be insured in the student health insurance. However, you can apply for exemption from compulsory insurance. To do so, contact a statutory health insurance company (e.g. AOK, Barmer, Techniker Krankenkasse).
Important for foreign students: If you come from an EU country, EEA country, Switzerland or a country that has a social security agreement with Germany, you remain insured in your home country. In order for a German statutory health insurance company (e.g. AOK, Barmer, Techniker Krankenkasse) to issue the insurance certificate, it needs your health insurance card (EHIC) and your home address.
The statutory health insurance companies are then automatically informed by the Student Secretariat about your enrollment and later about your exmatriculation.
If you not pay your health insurance contributions, the University of Tübingen can block your re-registration for the next semester at the request of your health insurance company!
Unfortunately, the Registrar's Office cannot provide you with information on the extent to which you are covered by health insurance if you take a leave of absence, study for a second degree, exceed the standard period of study, etc. If you are unsure, please contact your health insurance company directly in good time.
