Global Awareness Education (GAE) trains University students and employees to become responsible global citizens with cross-cultural competence. By taking our inter- and transdisciplinary courses, participants gain and put into practice intercultural and problem-solving skills required for understanding and engaging more fully with the enormous environmental and social challenges we face in an increasingly connected world. In doing so, the program implements the fourth goal of the University’s Excellent Strategy.
Global Awareness Education has fantastic, educational and fun courses to improve your understanding of global issues and challenges and get you involved in addressing them. Our courses cover a wide range of topics including globalization, human rights, indigenous knowledge, and disaster risk reduction. Many of these provide interactive, hands-on learning experiences and opportunitys, and are taught by experienced and international teams of educators, researchers, and practitioners who are active in social and natural sciences fields.
The Global Awareness Education offers students a (non-degree) Global Awareness Certificate after completion of 15 credit points. The knowledge and skills students gain by completing the required courses will complement their subject-specific knowledge. This includes acquiring inter- and transcultural skills for communication, developing problem-solving skills by cooperating with international partners, and becoming more aware of global power inequalities and ethnocentrism in analysis of world events, history, and their own decisions and worldviews.
The CIVIS Alliance of eleven European universities provides a productive environment for achieving the goals of Global Awareness. Within this framework, students develop their intercultural competencies and problem-solving skills, as well as practice international collaborations on an equal footing.
