Global Awareness Education trains university students and employees to become responsible global citizens with cross-cultural competence. By taking our inter- and transdisciplinary courses, participants gain and put into practice intercultural and problem-solving skills required for understanding and engaging more fully with the enormous environmental and social challenges we face in an increasingly connected world. In doing so, the program implements the fourth goal of the university’s Excellent Strategy.
Our program addresses three interconnected themes:
Global interrelations in society and nature
Globalization and cross-border processes
Raising awareness of global power inequalities and ethnocentrism
Our courses cover a wide range of topics including globalization, human rights, indigenous knowledge, and disaster risk reduction. Many of these provide interactive, hands-on learning experiences and opportunities, and are taught by experienced and international teams of educators, researchers, and practitioners who are active in social and natural sciences fields.
The CIVIS Alliance of European universities provides a productive environment for achieving the goals of Global Awareness. Within this framework, students can develop their intercultural competencies and problem-solving skills, as well as practice international collaboration on an equal footing.
Discover new topics in the Global Awareness courses according to your interests and form your very own specialization. The (non-degree) Global Awareness certificate makes it possible and distinguishes your individual study profile with an official document. To obtain the certificate, you must complete a total of 15 credit points.
