Ph.D. fellowships for research (m/f/d)

The Department of Early Prehistory and Quaternary Ecology of the University of Tübingen is offering 

two Ph.D. fellowships (m/f/d)

for up to 3 years in the field of Paleolithic archaeology.

The research should be related to the ca. 300,000 years old site complex of Schöningen.

The fellowships amount to 1,365€ / month and can start from March 1, 2026. The place of research, depending on the research topic, is in Schöningen, Lower Saxony and/or in Tübingen, Baden-Württemberg. Additional funds are available for research materials, meetings and publications.

The fellowships are funded by the state of Lower Saxony and are part of a joint doctoral program with the state of Baden-Württemberg on the evolution of cultural modernity.

Requirements for filling the positions are a master’s degree in Paleolithic archaeology or a related field (e.g. Quaternary ecology, paleoethnology, experimental archaeology, archaeo- and paleogenetics, molecular archaeology, zooarchaeology).
