Programs for teachers and schools

In the student labs, pupils can experiment on their own, ask questions, and get a behind-the-scenes look at scientific research. The “MINT me!” project brings together engaging extracurricular learning opportunities in mathematics, computer science, natural sciences, and technology. Teachers can select the events that best suit their classes.

The project strengthens connections between secondary schools and the University of Tübingen to foster interest in physics and provide early insights into studying the subject. Each participating school is assigned a dedicated contact person from the faculty who coordinates collaborations such as school visits, lab tours, or classroom support. In addition, we offer experiments and, when possible, access to our workshops for the repair of physics teaching equipment.

The chemistry lab gives secondary school students (grades 5–12) hands-on access to chemical research. In an authentic lab setting, they conduct their own experiments under the guidance of student teachers. Covering topics from current research fields to rare equipment like the atomic force microscope, the lab introduces high school students to the methods available in chemistry today.

Since 2008, more than 30,000 young people have explored the mysteries of the brain in the Neuroscience Student Lab For a day or a week, entire school classes step into the role of researchers. Teachers also have the opportunity to gain deeper insights into their subject in Tübingen’s first and largest laboratory for high school students.

The math lab is designed specifically for 6th-grade students. They explore mathematical questions that go beyond the standard curriculum. The focus is on actively working with patterns and structures, guided by student teachers. Additional programs are currently in development.

The physics lab offers secondary school students three programs in optics, electrical circuits, and mechanics. Students work in small groups, guided by student teachers, and explore fundamental concepts such as light and color, energy transfer, and force equilibrium.

Committed STEM students visit schools in the region to give young people authentic insights into studying STEM subjects, their content, and related career opportunities. Through presentations and hands-on activities, they share their enthusiasm, challenge common misconceptions, and support secondary school students in exploring their academic and career paths.

Researchers from the University of Tübingen visit high school classes in grades 10–13, bringing current research directly to the students. Through interactive double lessons, they provide insights into scientific methods and open up perspectives on studying, research, and career opportunities at the University of Tübingen.

The Lehr:Transfer project connects motivated student teachers with schools across the region to lead extracurricular clubs, provide homework support, offer tutoring or individual support, and supervise students before or after school. Both sides benefit: student teachers gain valuable practical experience and can gradually grow into their future roles as teachers. Schools gain flexibility in planning differentiated support, can expand extracurricular clubs and projects, and offer students a wide range of additional opportunities.

This event series explores various current topics related to school life and teaching (e.g., grading, forms of abuse of power in schools, students with learning difficulties, and queerness in schools). These topics are examined from various perspectives (e.g., school practice, academic research, teacher training, counseling practice, and/or extracurricular education) and discussed with the audience.
