Partner Universities in the U.S. and Canada
On this page you will find the University of Tübingen's partner universities in the U.S. and Canada, at which studying abroad is possible. Special features, course restrictions, and special requirements of the partner universities can be found in the right column. The abbreviations "IBT" and "Inst." stand for the language certificates "Internet-based TOEFL" and "Institutional TOEFL", respectively. Unless otherwise noted, an IBT score of at least 79 points (Inst. 550) is usually sufficient. Some universities require higher scores, this is also noted in the list.
State-to-State Exchange Programs
The state of Baden-Württemberg maintains a number of statewide exchange programs with various states in the United States and Canada. This means that there is an exchange between all nine research universities in Baden-Württemberg and the participating universities in the respective state. You can list any of these programs as one priority in your application. Applying to a specific campus of this state-to-state exchange program is not possible at this time and will be done in a second step after you have been selected for the program.
Number of Spots at the Partner Universities
You may find that spots are not available at all universities in every year, and the number of spots can vary greatly from year to year. However, this is always decided after the application deadline. Therefore, please indicate your desired priorities when applying.
Not Always Easy: Business (BWL) and Master's Students
For exchange students, access to graduate courses, i.e. courses at Master's level, is particularly difficult, especially in the field of business (BWL). There are very few places here! Also in the undergraduate area, (Bachelor's), there are only very limited places in the area of business (BWL). Bachelor students of other subjects, on the other hand, are much easier to place.
Please note that as a Bachelor student you cannot take Master courses under any circumstances.
Teaching and Resident Assistantships
At some universities, there is the possibility to work as a research assistant (Teaching Assistantships = TA or Resident Assistantships = RA). This activity is compensated with 3,000 to 15,000 US $ per year. This is also noted in the right column.
Testimonials
The experiences of former participants in the exchange program are a very good source of information, not only regarding the academic offers of the partner universities, but also when it comes to practical questions (housing situation, cost of living, etc.). These testimonials can be viewed on our testimonial portal, which you can access with your ZDV ID.
