Around 30 years ago, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) was classified as a disease. The therapy of this behavioral disorder has been debated for just as long. How many people in Germany suffer from ADHD can only be estimated: Between two and six percent of children and adolescents are said to be affected. Those affected are constantly dawdling, dreamy and have difficulty organizing themselves. - But this is not always true. Other children and adolescents with ADHD can concentrate perfectly when something is of burning interest to them. The phenomenon is called "hyperfocus". In the SWR 2 report, Professor Tobias Renner explains what is behind this.
