Mirage News: Curiosity May Keep Aging Minds Sharp

International collaboration investigates how different forms of curiosity vary across the lifespan.

An international research team involving the University of Tübingen has found that certain forms of curiosity can actually increase in old age – and may even help protect against Alzheimer’s and dementia.
The study, which included Prof. Kou Murayama and Dr. Michiko Sakaki from the University of Tübingen, distinguishes between general (trait) curiosity and momentary (state) curiosity. While general curiosity tends to decline over the course of life, interest-based curiosity rises significantly from middle age onward.
