Podcast: The Intersection of Multilingualism and Identity

Podcast episode in French broadcasted on April 29, 2025 | 1–2pm | Freies Radio Wüste Welle, 96.6 FM

[Translate to English:]

How does multilingualism intersects with history, politics, and identity? In the podcast series "French in Multilingual Africa," LEAD member Eleni Kanli and other researchers explore the rich linguistic diversity of French-speaking individuals from Africa now living in Germany. Using methods like the language portrait, they visually mapped personal language experiences: Guests from the local reception center for refugees visited the University of Tübingen in 2024 to conduct sociolinguistic interviews with students from the course "French in Multilingual Africa." These conversations offered insights into the role of language and linguistic practices in shaping identity and daily life.
