Tandemtalk Sarah Metzger and Dr. Fabienne Martin
On 25 February 2021, our colleague Sarah Metzger (Linguistics) gave a tandem talk with Dr. Fabienne Martin (HU Berlin) about “Different ways of being non-literal across languages.” Fabienne Martin presented some joint work withJanayna Carvalho (Federal University of Minas Gerais) and Artemis Alexiadou (HU & ZAS Berlin) on so-called pancake sentences in French and Brazilian Portuguese. The subject of these sentences is interpreted non-literally due to a grammatical feature mismatch. Sarah Metzger focused on the compositional meaning of the marker sozusagen, which marks non-literal readings. The talk took place online.
