Daimler and Benz Foundation: Ladenburg Horizons

Deadline: December 15, 2025

With the “Ladenburg Horizons,” the Daimler and Benz Foundation is focusing on research alliances between German and African institutions. This funding initiative is concerned with selected regions in Africa and takes account of their growing scientific and political significance.

Research institutions in Germany that already maintain or would like to establish contacts with African partners are eligible to apply. Funding is provided for a period of three years, with a sum of up to €300,000 intended above all to benefit the African partners.

In addition to professors and junior professors, applications can also be made by research group leaders who hold a doctorate – for example “Habilitanden” (candidates for lecturing positions) or postdoc researchers, provided they can submit suitable evidence of their autonomy within their scientific institution.

Funding may be requested for a clearly defined research project with a central research question.

The application deadline is December 15, 2025.

The following are not eligible for funding:

  • clinical studies,
  • the mere establishment of pure research, training, or further education structures, or capacity building,
  • visiting programs for African scientists at German institutions or vice versa,
  • programs that serve solely to promote young researchers,
  • projects with a duration period of less than two-and-a-half years.
