Major Research Instrumentation – Information and Funding
Conditions for major research instrumentation applications:
- Funding is provided by the DFG program for major research instrumentation in accordance with Section 91b, GG (German constitution) and is co-financed by the federal state of the institution.
- Applications may be submitted by state-run higher education institutions and non-governmental, accredited higher education institutions.
Review process:
- Investment projects for university research must demonstrate outstanding scientific quality and national importance.
- The scientific equipment must be used primarily for research, i. e., the necessity of its procurement and use must be justified solely by its use in research.
For universities, the amount to be invested must be greater than EUR 200,000. The maximum is EUR 7.5 million.
Application process and deadlines:
- Proposals are submitted to the DFG via the elan system.
- Please contact the Research Funding section (II 2.1) at the start of the application.
- Your contact person for reserach funding
- coordinates the clarification of co-financing issues where applicable
- advises you on the relevant in-house procedures
- coordinates the requisite nomination of the researcher responsible for submission of the proposal by the President's Office.
- Before submission, the fully completed proposal documents must be submitted to the Research Funding section for review.
- The relevant forms can be downloaded from the DFG website.
- After submitting your application via elan, you will receive a confirmation of receipt which you must sign and send to the Research Funding section. They will then send it to the DFG with the requisite President's signatures.
- Proposals for major instrumentation may be submitted at any time.
