Guide to: Communication channels

Which University communication channels are available to you?

You want to communicate an event, research findings, a new service for students, or something else - and you are wondering which University communication channels you can use to best reach your target audience? Below is a brief rundown of the options available.

Please note that the information here meant as a guide only. Practical experience has shown that usually not all the possible communication channels need to be used; the important thing is to select channels appropriate for your target audience and topic. We can help you match them up.

Do you have any questions? Members of the Public Relations Department are happy to advise you on choosing the right channel. Contact us: Public Relations Department team

The individual communication channels:

Press releases (PM) / Press invitations (PE)

The Public Relations Department issues press releases on research findings, important developments and events at the University of Tübingen. These press releases are written in cooperation with the University staff members involved. Publication is via Public Relations Department distribution lists. Please approach the press team well ahead of time pressespam prevention@uni-tuebingen.de so that there is enough time for preparation and coordination, and the press release can be sent out in good time to alert your target audience prior to the respective event. We will be happy to include suitable image material for which you have the media rights.

Please be aware that not every topic is suitable for a press release; we can advise on which other communication channels are suitable for your news.

Press invitations to public events can be issued via our weekly scheduling service, "Themen & Termine." In rare cases, such as for major University events, press conferences, visits by prominent guests, or topics of broad public interest, the Public Relations Department may extend invitations directly to the media.

Communication channels overview:

These are the options available. This overview is meant to serve as a guide rather than a rigid mandate. Experience has shown that it is not strictly necessary to utilize every possible communication channel; the decisive factor is selecting channels that are appropriate for the specific target audience. The Public Relations Department may therefore adjust the selection according to topic and target audience.
