ZUERICH AND STRASSBOURG
by Ruvimbo Zawu

As an African student, experiencing Europe and in particular Germany for the first time was dream come true. Hence, one can only imagine my uncontainable  excitement when i realized that an opportunity to discover and explore two additional     countries (Switzerland and France) was possible for only £54 (R810).

We left for Zurich,Switzerland on Saturday morning using the Flix bus  (one of the most affordable methods of transport in Europe).Traveling with 5 fellow South African students, excitement was in the air for what was to come. Upon arriving in Zurich, i was greeted with an atmosphere of opulence and wealth.

The great historical and carefully crafted buildings of Zurich, mirrored the city’s inhabitants who were meticulously dressed. Furthermore, it quickly became apparent to me that, Europe not just Germany has a rich culture. This culture is reflected in the streets of the small towns which meander into hidden gems such as a small cafe, a local boutique and houses.

Hence, walking around in Zurich, left a great impression of modernity and tradition intersecting. On Saturday evening we left Zurich, for Straßbourg, France. We arrived in the beautiful town and where greeted by beautiful Christmas lights. In the morning, we walked the beautiful town and i had an amazing breakfast at Cafe Brogli.

I tasted my first French croissant, which was amazing. As someone who studied French at University. Visiting France has been on my bucket list. Hence, achieving this dream has meant a lot to me. Sitting at a corner cafe in France, eating a croissant will forever be the highlight of my trip.
