The School of Business and Economics of the Faculty of Economics and Social Sciences at Tübingen University invites applications for the position of
Tenure-Track Professor (W1) for Economic History and Empirical Macroeconomics
The intended start date is 1 October 2025.
The position is part of the School's initiative to further expand and strengthen its activities in Economic History and Empirical Macroeconomics and to promote its innovative and interdisciplinary development. The University of Tübingen offers an excellent environment for this initiative.
The professor's research and teaching will focus on quantitative economic history and empirical macroeconomics. Strong disciplinary and interdisciplinary collaboration with other departments at the University of Tübingen and the development of international collaborations are particularly welcome.
We expect the successful candidate to contribute to the teaching portfolio of the School at all levels, in particular to the B.Sc. International Economics, B.Sc. Economics and Business Administration, M.Sc. Economics and M.Sc. European Economics. A clear empirical focus in research and teaching is expected. The School is planning to establish a new Ph.D. program in Geoeconomics, and we expect participation in this project.
We are looking for outstanding candidates at an early stage of their career with an excellent track record:
An outstanding Ph.D. dissertation in a relevant field (e.g., economics, including economic history), recognizable potential for internationally visible publications in leading international peer-reviewed journals and third-party funding, and teaching experience.
The position has a teaching load of four hours per week prior to interim evaluation, and six hours thereafter.
This Tenure-Track position is subject to an interim evaluation after four years and a final evaluation after six years. If the final evaluation is positive, this professorship will be upgraded to a full (W3) professorship with no re-advertising of the position.
Those who have completed a habilitation will be excluded.

Applicants for a Tenure-Track professorship with a PhD from Tübingen must have changed universities after completing their doctorates or have worked in academia and/or research for at least two years somewhere other than the University of Tübingen.
