First COVID-19 case at the University of Tübingen

Student tested positive – Two other students and two employees classified as category 1 contacts

A first case of COVID-19 has been confirmed at the University of Tübingen. A computer science student who attended a block seminar in early March tested positive for the new corona virus, as the University reported Wednesday. Two other students are suspected cases. As of Wednesday night, their test result was still pending. The block seminar in computer science had a total of 28 student participants and was taught by one professor and two junior researchers.

The student tested positive for COVID-19 is under quarantine at home – as are the two suspected cases and the two junior researchers classified as category 1 contact persons. The professor and other seminar participants are currently classified as category 2 contact persons. They are required to reduce their social contacts and keep their distance from other people. If they develop typical symptoms of infection, they must contact the health authorities immediately.

The course took place from 5 March in a University lecture hall and a computer pool. Both rooms were closed on Wednesday. They will be disinfected before any further use, in accordance with the University Health Service and public health authorities’ directions.
