New guest professorship of Global Literary Studies
Indian literature scholar first guest in Tübingen in scheme to promote internationalization; opening lecture Monday, 27 October
Professor Makarand R. Paranjape of New Delhi is Tübingen’s first guest professor of Global Literary Studies. He will hold his commencement lecture on “Rabindranath Tagore’s Idea of World Literature” on Monday, 27 October 2014, at 7pm at the Alte Aula (Münzgasse 22, 72070 Tübingen).
The Erich Auerbach guest professorship of Global Literary Studies has been awarded to the University of Tübingen for four years and is sponsored by the German Ministry of Education and Research and the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) with €100,000. Its aim is to promote internationalization at German universities.
Over the next four years, Tübingen will host outstanding literary scholars from around the world – from Australia (Bill Ashcroft, Vijay Mishra), India (Makarand Paranjape), South Africa (Dan Ojwang), the UK (Suman Gupta, Adrian Poole, Andrew Webber) and the US (Mark Sanders, Robert Tally). Each guest will hold three seminars over a period of three months.
