Rhetoric between cultures

Researchers from around the world meet in Tübingen next week for the 20th International Society for the History of Rhetoric conference

More than 350 experts will be meeting at the University of Tübingen from 28 - 31 July 2015 for the Rhetorik zwischen den Kulturen/ Rhetoric Between Cultures conference. Participants from more than 30 countries will discuss the history of rhetoric at the Audimax (Neue Aula, Geschwister Scholl Platz) and in the Brechtbau (Wilhelmstr. 50, 72074 Tübingen). This 20th conference of the International Society for the History of Rhetoric (ISHR) is hosted by Germany’s only Institute of General Rhetoric, founded in 1967 by the philosopher and writer Walter Jens.

The more than 300 presentations will be in English, German, French, Spanish or Italian, and will examine themes as diverse as Rhetoric and culture from ancient times to the present day, as well as Biblical, Byzantine, African, Chinese, Korean, Indian, indigenous Latin American, feminist and musical rhetoric. The conference aims to broaden the spectrum of rhetorical concepts, while inviting participants to reconsider what rhetoric is.
