Tübingen Research Campus brings institutions and resources together
Twelve research institutions agree closer cooperation to raise Tübingen’s international research profile with better services for researchers and their work
Twelve Tübingen research institutes have founded the Tübingen Research Campus to promote Tübingen as a place for outstanding international research. The TRC promises greater cooperation and integrated service by supporting collaboration between the institutions and individual researchers, further strengthening Tübingen’s research profile, and making Tübingen even more attractive to outstanding researchers from around the globe.
The TRC comprises the University, University Hospitals, and numerous non-university research centers in the region. They aim to cooperate more closely on:
- sharing data and personnel in core research areas and on joint projects,
- using major instrumentation and technical infrastructure,
- training new scientists and academics,
- providing services for international researchers, and
- promoting Tübingen internationally.
Over the past 15 years, Tübingen has become home to a number of non-university research institutions with sponsors including the Max Planck Society, the Leibniz Association and the Helmholtz Association. The TRC will help coordinate and intensify the existing cooperation between these institutions and University institutes and researchers.
The partners also aim to jointly develop future areas of research, synergies in training, and make it easier to share infrastructure - such as technical equipment and core facilities. The initiative will be supervised by a new Tübingen Research Board, headed by University President, Professor Bernd Engler.
International researchers, too, are expected to benefit from initiatives such as the new joint internet platform which will bring together the information on the TRC partners and on living and working in Tübingen. This includes details of the partners’ Welcome Services which help new arrivals to get settled. The University is also providing the support of its Industry Liason Office in joint projects with industry.

The TRC is also supported by the German Center for Neurodegenerative Diseases (DZNE). The TRC is coordinated by the University’s Unit for International Research Cooperation and Research Strategies.
