Tübingen Theologian joins German Ethics Council
Speaker of the Bundestag appoints Franz-Josef Bormann, professor of Moral Theology
Tübinger Theologian Professor Franz-Josef Bormann has been appointed to the German Ethics Council, which advises the German government in questions of research - particularly in the Life Sciences - and its effects on people and society. The president of the Bundestag, Norbert Lammert appointed Bormann to the Council for a period of four years.
Franz-Josef Bormann (born in 1965) has been Professor of Moral Theology at the University of Tubingen's Faculty of Catholic Theology since 2008. His research includes current debates in medicine and bioethics, the philosophical and theological problems of rational morality and basic theories of justice.
Bormann studied Philosophy and Catholic Theology at the Graduate School of Philosophy and Theology Sankt Georgen, at LMU München and at the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome. Following doctoral studies in Sankt Georgen, he worked at Harvard University and Freiburg University. From 2005 to 2008 he was professor of Moral Theology and Ethics in Paderborn.
