Uni-Tübingen

Australia and New Zealand

Next application deadline:

June 15, 2026 for the Australian/New Zealand semester 1/2027 (summer semester 2026) and/or the Australian/New Zealand semester 2/2027 (winter semester 2027/28).

Kia ora and g'day, mate! The University of Tübingen has also concluded university partnerships for student exchanges in Australia and New Zealand.

As with the other non-European exchange programs, the exchange agreements allow you to study for one or two semesters at one of the partner universities without having to pay their tuition fees if your application is successful. However, administrative fees, which are comparable to the Tübingen semester fee, and other fees at the host university (e.g. compulsory health insurance) cannot be waived as part of the exchange.

Semester times in Australia and New Zealand

Unfortunately, the semester times in Australia and New Zealand do not coincide with the semester times in Tübingen, which should definitely be taken into account when planning your stay abroad.

Here you will find a rough overview of the semester times at our partner universities. As the exact dates can vary from university to university and from year to year, you should check the “Academic Calendar” on the websites of the partner universities for exact information.

Studying in Australia and New Zealand

The universities in this higher education area enjoy an excellent reputation, are first-class in teaching and research and are very well equipped. Due to the high tuition fees that local students have to pay, the universities in Australia and New Zealand are also very service-oriented. The courses at the partner universities in Australia and New Zealand are much more time-consuming than those in Tübingen. You rarely see large lectures there. Small classes, lots of group work, tutorials and continuous assessment during the semester ensure that exchange students are well utilized with three or four courses per semester. The advantage of completing coursework during the semester is that the grade for the course does not depend solely on the final exam.

Living Expenses

Tuition fees at the partner university are waived through the exchange program - and with costs of up to AUD/NZD 15,000 per semester, this is certainly worthwhile financially. Nevertheless, a stay abroad in Australia/New Zealand is expensive. Increased travel costs, the health insurance that is usually compulsory at the partner university, administration fees, visa fees (AUD 1,600 in Australia!) and high costs for accommodation and food mean that you should think carefully about the financial aspects of a stay in Australia/New Zealand. The DAAD has compiled more detailed information on the cost of living in both countries in its country information here: Informationen zu den Lebenshaltungskosten

G'day mate—great to have you here! :) This is exactly where my journey began. The to-do list is long, the uncertainty is great, but it's worth the effort! During my stay in Australia, I learned to navigate unfamiliar structures with confidence. It was an experience that has enriched me in lasting ways. You can look forward to an incredibly active country and very open-hearted Aussies: surfing, running clubs, campus life—you're welcome everywhere! So, go for it!
