Requirements and application
An excellent education requires a good supervision ratio. For this reason the number of study places is limited. We typically have far more applications than study places. Thus, admission is based on a selection process in which the grade of the university entrance examination is crucial. In addition, other criteria such as relevant vocational training, work experience, voluntary ecological year, stay abroad, an internship or experience as a youth trainer can improve the grade by up to 0.6 points. You can find more information on the possibilities to increase your chances here.
The course of study starts in each winter semester. The application deadline is July 15 of each year. Further information on the application procedure can be found here.
All programs at the University of Tübingen require applicants to have a high school leaving certificate, usually the German Abitur, or other equivalent higher education entrance qualification, e.g. the Deltaprüfung for applicants with vocational school certificates or a higher education entrance qualification for professionals. Applicants with qualifications from outside Germany must apply via the Office for the Advising and Admission of International Students.
Before you start your teacher training program, you must take part in a teacher orientation test (§ 60 paragraph 2 number 6 Landeshochschulgesetz LHG), which you must prove at the time of enrollment.
You can take a variety of tests (§ 4 paragraph 2 Admission and Matriculation Regulations of the University of Tübingen ZIO): You can either take an online test (printout of the confirmation at the end) or you can have a counseling confirmed at the Tübingen School of Education TüSE, at the Central Student Counseling Service ZSB, the Academic Advisory Service in the subjects or at the counseling centers for academic professions of the Employment Agency.
You can get further information at the Tübingen School of Education TüSE.
The language of instruction and examination in the B.Ed. in Economics (teacher training) is German. Courses and examinations can sometimes be held in English. It is assumed that students have very good German language skills (about C1) as well as sufficient English language skills (about B1). In particular, the relevant technical literature frequently is in English. You can get advice, especially on German language skills for international applicants, from the Admissions Office for International Students.
Here you will find an overview of any foreign language requirements.
In addition to your major subject Economics (B.Ed.) you have to combine another major subject (B.Ed.). You can combine almost all subjects in the teaching degree; however, with regard to the chances of being hired, a combination such as Ancient Greek and Russian or similar does not seem to make much sense. In addition, there are the following restrictions: The subjects Fine Arts and Music can be combined with all the subjects mentioned, but not with each other. The subject NwT can only be studied in combination with one of the subjects Biology, Chemistry, Physics or Geography. For admission to the preparatory service (Referendariat) in Baden-Württemberg, a combination of the religions with each other or with philosophy/ethics is not possible. In addition, you must belong to the respective denomination in Protestant and Catholic theology.
Program details
Students of the Bachelor of Education at the School of Business and Economics receive a wide-ranging education within the subject matter science, subject didactics as well as related disciplines.
The B. Ed. in Business and Economics serves to develop basic academic competencies in order to further develop them in the long term and to critically examine current economic issues. Thus, the B. Ed. offers a first general, scientifically based job-related qualification for graduates* in the field of Business and Economics.
